A system LSI will cause hardware error due to the aging degradation. A special circuit like ASIC can not avoid hardware error unless it has a spare circuit. Due to that reason, ASIC needs replacing the device. It can be problem where the device can not be replaced when used in space or remote area.
Contrary to that, FPGA is expected to avoid such error as LSI may cause with its programmable features.

System LSI has been aging and hard errors occur. Due to the lack of spare dedicated circuits like ASIC, it is not able to solve the hard errors. Therefore ASIC is necessary for device exchange. This causes great problems in environments like aerospace or remote areas in which swift device exchange is not possible. As a solution, FPGA with its programmable features is expected to reduce the negative impact caused by such ASIC fault-tolerant problems.
