If there is one lesson that Bill Gates has learned the hard way it is that being famous and being infamous are closely linked. You can't expect to become the richest man in the world without making some enemies - and in the computer industry Gates made more than his share of those. He also attracted the interest of anti-trust authorities, both in the US and Europe, who have questioned whether some of Microsoft's business practices are anti-competitive for many years.
