That included his former partner Paul Allen (he left Microsoft as a result of ill-health when he was diagnosed as suffering from Hodgkin's disease). Gates was one of the few to stick around in the war zone, along with IT heavyweights such as Steve Jobs at Apple, Larry Ellison at Oracle, and Scott McNealy at Sun Microsystems.
