Microsoft's history under Bill Gates' leadership was one of almost uninterrupted growth in one of the most competitive industries in the world. While Gates remained full-time at the company, it grew from a two-man operation to one that employed more than 60,000 people, and generated in excess of $60 billion a year in sales.
Microsoft has attributed its success to five factors:
• a long term approach;
• results orientation;
• teamwork and individual drive;
• a passion for its products and customers; and
• continuous customer feedback.
