昨日、山田さんから、彼が早期退職することを聞きました。私は、少なくとも新しい社長が決まる迄は、全面的にＩＢＭの日本でのビジネスに関与し、最善の努力をするつもりです。
また、ＮＥＣの鈴木社長の転出が、本日発表されました。新しい社長候補は田中さんといって、私の一年後輩の古くからの友人です。私は、鈴木さん同様に田中さんと強い信頼関係を持つことが出来ると思います。

I have heard from Mr. Yamada yesterday that he is having an early retirement. I am willing to do my best and be fully involved in the Japanese business IBM, at least until the next company president has been chosen.
It has also been revealed today that the NEC company president Mr. Suzuki will be moving out. The new company president applicant is called Mr. Tanaka who is one year my junior and an old friend of mine. I believe that like Mr. Suzuki, I will be able build a strong, trusting relationship with Mr. Tanaka.
今月末に、トムさんが、日本に来ると聞いています。その時には、ＩＢＭに対して、鈴木さんが辞任する事を説明する必要があると思います。同時に、今後ともＩＢＭとＮＥＣの信頼関係が変わらない事、及び、今回のトライアルが予定通り進展することを、改めて確認する事が必要です。私は、NECグループに個別に説明し、この件に関しての理解を得られるように全力を尽くす積りです。
I heard that Mr. Tom is coming to Japan at the end of this month. When that time comes, Mr. Suzuki will have to explain about his resignation to IBM. Simultaneously, there is also a need to confirm again that the connection between IBM and NEC will not change, and that the trial is going as planned.
