剖検例によると、脳・冠動脈に先行して大動脈の硬化性病変が進展するため、大動脈の動脈硬化度を反映するこの検査値は、脳・冠動脈の硬化性病変より早期に変化している可能性が考えられる。またdisease Aにおける原因が頭蓋内血管の動脈硬化性変化であるならば、すでに大血管の動脈硬化がある程度進んでいるはずである。・・・・・高齢になれば、高血圧、高脂血症の発症頻度も高くなり、それに伴ってこの検査値が高くなるが、それが直接本疾患の原因となっているかどうかについては慎重な議論を要する。
