Duchovny's portrayal of Denise is, by the very nature of the series she's a part of, a more stilted, dry performance than the others. Duchovny imbues her with a slinky femininity you'd expect to see in a classic noir, and he rarely overdoes it. The distinction between Duchovny's performance and the other two is that seems effortless. The writing is just as subtle. Denise's status as trans* is incidental to at least half of her dialogue, and whenever a joke about her gender does come up, it's more good-humored than a cheap shot. This is the ideal portrayal of a trans* character to me. It's queerness made banal, and it is what we need more of.
La interpretación que hace Duchovny de Denise es, por la propia naturaleza de las series que ella forma parte, una actuación más rebuscada y seca que en las otras. Duchovny le dota de una fuerte feminidad que esperaríamos encontrar en un clásico de la novela negra, y él rara vez exagera. La diferencia entre la actuación de Duchovny y las otras es que la primera parece no forzada. La escritura es sutil. La condición de transexual de Denise es secundaria hasta al menos la mitad del diálogo, y cuando se realiza una broma acerca de su sexualidad, es más que un simple chiste barato. Ésta, para mí, es la interpretación ideal del personaje de un transexual. La rareza se transforma en algo banal, y es lo que más necesitamos.
