Kamcord
US-based Kamcord makes an SDK for mobile game developers to add video recording capabilities to their games. The startup has expanded to Japan and plans on entering Korea and China next year. Tencent participated in the US$15 million series B round in December, which was led by Puzzles and Dragons maker GungHo. This was Tencent’s second consecutive investment into Kamcord, which reports 25 million videos shared.

We’ll be sure to update this list with any more investments between now and the end of the year.

Edaixi
Edaixi is an O2O laundry pickup app run by Chinese laundromat chain Rongchang. China’s Uber of laundry raised a US$3.2 million seed round from Tencent in July, then another US$20 million in November. Besides the native app, users can also order a pickup via the company’s official WeChat account.

Scaled Interface
Founded by two ex-Googlers, Scaled Interface is building a cloud-based artificial intelligence and machine learning tool for third parties developers to run their apps and services. Tencent participated in the startup’s US$5 million seed round. Scaled Interface then went on to raise another US$8 million from Khosla Ventures in November.

Edaixi
Edaixiは中国のクリーニング店チェーンRongchangが提供するクリーニング物受け取り用O to O 型アプリである。この中国のクリーニング店版Uberは7月にTencentからシードラウンドで320万米ドルを、11月にさらに2000万米ドルを調達した。ユーザはそのアプリに加えて、会社の正式WeChatアカウント経由でクリーニング物の受け取りも依頼する事ができる。

Scaled Interface
Scaled Interface は2人の元Google従業員によって設立され、 ソフトウエア開発会社向けに、彼らのアプリとサービスを実行させるクラウドベースの人工知能と機械学習のツールを構築している。Tencentはスタートアップ時の500万米ドルのシードラウンド資金調達に参加した。Scaled Interfaceはその後800万米ドルをKhosla Venturesから11月に調達した。

Kuakao
Kuakao is a test prep site for college courses and certifications. The startup raised RMB 30 million (US$4.8 million) in a series B round from Tencent in August.

Wanda
Tencent and Baidu set up a US$814 million joint venture with Dalian Wanda Group, a conglomerate best known for its chain of movie theatres. The aim is to accelerate the three companies’ goal of in-store mobile payments. Wanda owns 70 percent of the company, while Baidu and Tencent split the remainder. WeChat users will be able to use WeChat payments or TenPay to buy goods and services on Wanda properties.

Kuakao
Kuakaoは大学のコースと検定用の試験準備サイトである。このスタートアップは8月にTencentからシリーズBラウンドで、3,000万人民元（480万米ドル）を調達した。

Wanda
TencentとBaiduは映画館チェーンで最も良く知られている企業グループDalian Wanda Groupとともに8億1400万米ドルでジョイントベンチャーを設立した。この3社のゴールである店舗内モバイル決済機能の導入を加速させることが目的である。Wandaがその会社の70％を所有し、BaiduとTencentが残りの持ち分を等分している。WeChatユーザはWeChat paymentsもしくはTenPayを利用してWandaの施設内でのサービスや品物を購入できるようになる予定。

I'm very dissapointed with my order you claim the watch was a Japanese movement and it's not the movement it's made in Malaysia and the case in China so nothing it's made in Japan and the warranty it's not good here so I need to know if you got a Japanese made watch to replace this watch. Tencent is bringing Puzzle & Dragons to China: better late than never?

Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal broke the news that Tencent will be bringing the popular Japanese mobile game Puzzle & Dragons to China next year, “according to a person familiar with the matter.” Does that mean a massive windfall of cash is imminent for the Chinese game publisher?

昨日、ウォール・ストリート・ジャーナルは関係者の話として、Tencentが来年、日本で人気のある携帯電話用ゲームアプリ、パズル＆ドラゴンズ を中国へ投入する予定である事を伝えた。これは 棚ぼた式に、今にも巨額なキャッシュが、この中国のゲーム販売会社へ転がり込むという事であろうか？

On the one hand, this move may be coming a little late. Puzzle & Dragons was white hot in 2013, but since then its growth has slowed. In fact, it was just dethroned as Japan’s top mobile game and its top-grossing mobile game by a newer game called Monster Strike, published by Mixi. By the time Puzzle & Dragons launches in China in 2015, the game’s popularity may well have sunk even lower.

一方この動きは少し遅いかもしれない。パズル＆ドラゴンズは2013年に大ヒットしたが、それ以来、成長は鈍化している。実際mixiが販売している、モンスターストライクという、最近のゲームによって、日本の人気モバイル ゲームトップと売上高トップの座をつい最近押しのけられた。
パズル＆ドラゴンズが中国で2015年に発売されるまでに、その人気はさらに落ち込む可能性があるであろう。

On shaky footing

Ericsson has mounted similar litigation against other phone makers, including Micromax, Gionee, and Intex, according to SpicyIP, which originally broke the news. But the court seems to have expedited the case against Xiaomi due to the company’s alleged refusal to respond to Ericsson’s complaints.

However, SpicyIP notes that the law under which the injunction was granted is questionable. The international TRIPS Rules from 2007 only applies to copyrights and trademarks, not patents. That means the law might be overstepping its mandate.

Secondly, according to Indian law, SpicyIP says a lower district court must decide the case, and a high court can only get involved if there is a counterclaim. Therefore, the high court is not in conformance with the law by granting the initial injunction.

In India, Ericsson has the high ground

Ericsson’s claim that it has been trying to engage Xiaomi for the past three years means this conflict began long before Xiaomi ever entered India, or any country outside of China for that matter. Xiaomi’s first-ever phone was launched just over three years ago, in August 2011.
