3. Monthly Income and Spending Levels

The chart on the left relates to monthly disposable income among Weibo users, while the blue chart relates to income. Clearly, the bulk of users say that they spend 1,000 RMB to 2,999 RMB ($159 to $478) per month. Tallied with the afore-mentioned preponderance of white-collar and mid-level office workers (in #2) on the social site, there’s a fairly sizable chunk of income set aside for spending each month:

4. Spending Power

All of Sina Weibo’s users have an annual theoretical spending power of RMB 16 trillion ($2.55 trillion), which equates to the GDP of Italy. OK, so Chinese tend to be conservative with spending – prefering to save for college funds and to counterbalance a lack of a social safety net – so this one is not so meaningful for brands. Instead it’d be better to look at education and income levels (see #2 and #3) and carefully cross-reference that with regional distribution (see #5). Nonetheless, this is a fun factoid:

Weibo users are – as the above stats give a clue – scattered across China’s richer coastal areas and hi-tech manufacturing hubs. On the heat map, Guangdong stands out in red, with the most Weibo users of all, then Jiangsu province and Beijing municipality. All three provinces have a similar weight of middle-class and wealthy inhabitants, and its interesting that they share a strong Weibo user-base as well:

For now, Weibo users spend more time accessing the service on their PCs – an average of 5.8 hours per day for a user. On a mobile, that’s down to 3.9 hours. Both stats, Sina claims, are higher than for either Facebook or Twitter:

How do I get my old photos to become originals?
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to get photos uploaded previously in their original size. The original size photos will only be stored on the New Photobucket, and any images uploaded previously before the switch over will not have their original sizes available. Only the web-size version will be available for previously uploaded photos.

Why is the image I see not my original?
The originals are stored on our servers for you to access at any time, but they are too large for linking purposes. A web-size version is created for the purpose of linking and editing.

To understand this, you need to understand what originals are, and how they are stored on our site. Your original photos are your photos in their original state when uploaded from your PC/Phone/Camera, without any resizing or compression done to them. Previous Pro account holders were able to upload their high resolution photos, and they would be stored on the site for accessing at any time, and their web-size copies created would be larger than allowed for the free users.

How Do Women Shop Differently Online? Insights from Female Daily

Women are as avid online shoppers compared to its male compatriots, but is it any different in Indonesia’s male-dominated tech industry? Hanifa Ambadar, Affi Assegaf, and Novita Imelda (pictured right), three women from Indonesian female community website Female Daily Network are here to help us understand women better, as they shared their insights about their female users.

女性のオンラインショッピングはどう違うのか？Female Dailyの見解

女性は男性に比べてオンラインショッピングに熱心だ。しかしインドネシアの男性上位な技術産業とはどう違うのか？インドネシア女性コミュニティウェブサイトFemale Daily Networkを運営するHanifa Ambadar、Affi AssegarとNovita Imelda(写真右）の3人が、女性ユーザーの考えを共有して我々がもっと女性を理解する手助けをしてくれる。

They have identified that 30 percent of all internet users in Indonesia are female. But in e-commerce, Affi says that women spend more money, which helps make online shopping a very promising market to be in. Hanifa shared more data about the female audience:

52.3 percent of women we surveyed earned between IDR 5 to 20 million per month [$522 to $2,087], 64.6 percent of them own credit cards, and spend about 13.19 percent of their income for retail shopping.

インドネシアのインターネットユーザーの30%は女性だという。しかしAffiによると、eコマースに限って言えば女性の方が多くのお金を費やしているのでオンラインショッピングは有望な市場だ。Hanifaは女性客のこんなデータをシェアしてくれた。

調査した女性のうち52.3%の月給はIDR5百万~2,000万9($522~$2,087)で、そのうち64.6%はクレジットカードを所有しており、収入の13.19%を買い物に費やします。

What do women shop for online? It’s a range of things including various fashion items such as clothing, bags, and make-up, or products for their children. Women aren’t shy to spend some dough to buy these products as some of the imported branded bags that are priced as high as IDR 100 million ($10,400) are still selling like hot cakes on Female Daily.

女性はなぜオンラインで買い物をするのか？服、バッグ、メイクなど様々なファッション商品や子ども用品などが買える。女性はこういった商品にはお金を惜しまないので、Female DailyではIDR1億($10,400）のように高価な輸入ブランドバッグもホットケーキと同じように売れている。

Women’s Online Shopping Behavior

So how do women decide what to buy online? The survey found that as much as 70 percent of Indonesian women get their fashion inspiration by looking at what their friends’ are wearing, both offline and online. This is especially true for beauty products such as make-up, where women rely more on customer testimonials and recommendations. This is because beauty products are quite sensitive to the different skin types that women have. A lot of women at Female Daily often help others by taking the time to talk and sharing their product experiences at the site’s forum.

では女性はどうやってオンラインで買うものを決めているのか？調査では、70%のインドネシア人女性はオンラインまたはオフラインで見る友人のファッションに影響を受ける。メイクのような美容商品は特に口コミによるところが大きい。これは女性の肌はそれぞれ違うので、美容に関する商品には特に気を使うからだ。Female Dailyで買い物をする多くの女性はサイトのフォーラムで質問したり感想を述べたりして情報を交換している。

Interestingly, Hanifa said that the pre-order system is quite popular on its C2C marketplace, MarketPlaza. The system works like Kaskus’ pre-order scheme for gadgets not yet available in the country, whereas the items pre-ordered by the women there are beauty items such as the latest make-up products.

興味深いことに、Hanifaが語ったところによると事前予約システムがC2CマーケットプレイスのMarketPlazaで繁盛しているという。このシステムはまだインドネシアで発売していないガジェット用のKaskus事前予約システムと同様で、女性が事前予約するのは最新のメーキャップ商品など美容アイテムである。

Women and Gadgets

I asked if women find talking about the latest gadgets an interesting topic, and Affi says yes, but from a very different point of view. Men’s main focus on gadgets are its specifications and features, while women focus on its physical looks and relevant features, such as the games for their children. Looking over the Samsung Galaxy Note thread on Female Daily forum, the users’ discussion was indeed focused on how cute the Galaxy Note’s design and pink color is.

女性は最新ガジェットの話を面白いと思うかと聞いてみたら、Affiは、面白いとは思うけど違った意味で、だと言う。男性はガジェットの仕様や機能に注目するが、女性はもっと見た目や使い勝手、子ども用のゲームなどに関心を寄せる。Samsung Galaxy NoteのスレッドをFemale Dairyのフォーラムで見てみると、実際にユーザーのコメントはGalaxy Noteのデザインやピンクの色が可愛いというものばかりであった。

Novita tells me that a lot of electronic manufacturers are looking to tap into this female audience, as they are looking to infuse a fashion sense onto their gadgets. They gave an example of how Acer held a runway fashion show where the runway models used the laptops as a fashion item during the recent Clozette Daily launch.

It is not often that I find women tech entrepreneurs in Indonesia. But male-dominated e-commerce startups might want to consider partnering with a few ladies to treat the female audience a little better, since they have the most spending power!

360buy Launches Digital Music Service

Chinese B2C site 360buy launched digital music service (music.360buy.com) today in a way to expand its digital offerings. The company has already been selling digital books since earlier this year.

The new services came along with client softwares (LeMusic) across multiple platforms like PC, Android and iPhone.

Most of the music on the website are priced at RMB 1.99 (US$ 0.3) or offered for free downloads. Songs are provided by a bunch of prominent Chinese record company. However, we found that the choices are quite limited.

360buyがデジタル音楽サービスをローンチ

中国のB2Cサイト360buyがデジタル事業の拡大としてデジタル音楽サービス（music.360buy.com）を今日始動した。同社は今年からデジタル書籍の販売を既に開始している。

新しいサービスはクライアントソフトウェア（LeMusic)と共に提供され、PC、AndroidからiPhoneまで様々なプラットフォームに対応する。

ウェブサイトから入手可能な音楽は各RMB1.99（US$0.3)または無料でダウンロードできる。中国の有力レコード会社が多数参加して楽曲を提供している。しかし、選択肢はそれほど多くないようだ。
