仕事をすると火傷をします。必ず、火傷します。

火の粉が飛んできて手の上に乗っても払えない。

払ったら作業を止めてしまうことになる。

だから火の粉が乗ったまま仕事を続けていく。

熱さ、火傷に耐えること。それは苦しい。

「四郎國光の包丁は良く切れる」と、購入していただいたお客様に頻繁に言ってもらえる。

「今まで違う包丁を使っていたけれど、これは段違いの質だ」と行ってもらえる。
それは嬉しいことだ。

昔から、我々は包丁を作る際、切れ味を最も重要視している。

切れ味は他の包丁に負けたくない。

When we work, we get burned. Always burn ourselves.
Even if fire sparks fly over and land on our hands, we are not able to dust them off because it means we stop working. Therefore we continue to work with fire sparks on our hands.
It is agonizing to endure heat and burns.
"Knives made by Shiro Kunimitsu cut very well." Clients who bought his knives often say so.
"This knife is totally different from my knives that I've been using," customers say. Very nice to hear things like this. What we emphasize the most in knife making from the old days is sharpness.
We don't want to lose in sharpness over other knives.

包丁の手入れについては、
毎回使った後に綺麗に洗い、乾いた布できちっと湿気を取る。

重要なのはそれだけだ。

毎回綺麗にすると包丁も長くもつし、切れ味もあまり落ちない。

そういうふうに使ってもらいたい。

刀に関しては、
心を鎮めて、見る時に毎回手入れをする。

手入れをした後に、姿なり地鉄や刃紋を見る。

刀をとにかく可愛がって、好きで好きで見ていただける方、
そのような方が刀の購入者として一番好ましいし、購入者は刀をそのような扱い方にしてほしい。

Regarding how to up-keep of these knives, wash them fully after every usage and wipe them with a dry cloth to take away the dampness.

That is all of the importance you have to do to keep them in good shape.

By keeping them clean, knives have a long life and sharpness won't go too bad.

We would like our knives to use this way for customers.

In regards to swords, you need to take care of them every time you look at them with your calm mind.

After you clean swords, you admire the shape, iron works and Hamon (blade pattern, which is the effect created by the hardening process.)

We would like customers to take care of swords in every way, to look and admire them.
These people are most preferable for purchasing swords and customers are highly recommended to handle swords with greatest care.

どこの刀匠も今一番経済的に苦しい。

刀が売れないので、仕事をしたくても出来ない。

違う仕事をしたり、アルバイトをしながら刀を作っている刀匠もいるというのが現状だ。

刀は基本的に似通ったものなので、その中でも未来に残っていく刀を作りたい。

刀は日本人の魂と呼ばれ、お守りにもなる。

家を守っていくお守り刀というものがある。

そして、刀を持つ人間そのものが精神的に強くなって欲しいと思う。


小3の時に父が仕事をしていて、その後ろ姿が格好良かった。

その時に刀匠になりたいと決意した。

Any sword makers are currently receiving hardest hit economically.
As swords are not selling, they can't find work even though they are willing to.
They are trying to make ends meet to do something else and/or to do something different on the side other than sword making. This is the current sword making condition.
Since swords look similar essentially, we would like to make kind of swords that will remain in the future.
Swords are called Japanese soul and can be your protection, too.
There are "charm swords," which protect your house. Our wish is to have people with swords be mentally stronger.
When I was in the 3rd grade while my father was working with swords, I thought his back looked very cool.
I decided I wanted to be a sword maker then.

父がいなければ刀に関する賞を取れていない。

父は仕事に関して一緒に考えてくれるし、
ひとりだったら、もしかすると刀匠を辞めていたかもしれない。

愛刀家が増えて欲しいと思う。

刀を詳しく知らなくてもいいから、ちょっとでも刀に興味を持って欲しい。

しかし中々、刀を目にする機会がないから、見る機会を増やしていきたい。

見る機会を増やすために展示会が出来たらいいと思う。

しかし、現在、九州の若手の刀匠で会を組織したが、催事を行うにもなかなか会場が決まらない。

Without my father, I haven't gotten any sword awards.
He thinks with me about my work. If I was all by myself, I may have been stop working as a sword maker.
I would like more sword lovers/admires.
It is okay without good knowledge of swords. If someone to have a little interests in swords, it would be nice.
I understand there are not many chances for people to see swords, I would like to create more occasions to show them. In order to do so, we should do swords exhibitions. We put together a group of young swords makers of Kyushu, but are having a hard time to decide where to have an exhibition.

仕事をしないと生活できないが、
刀匠の置かれた現状を考えると仕事をしても、刀匠の仕事だけでは生活するのも厳しい

まずは刀、つまり作品をもっと露出していかないと、
新しいお客さんもつかないし、愛刀家も増えていかない

ひとつの作品を作り上げて、気に入ってくれるお客さんがいれば嬉しい
誰にでも売るというわけではないが、刀を愛してくれて、包丁も愛してくれれば、これ以上に嬉しいことはない

作品である刀も包丁が手荒に扱われたら、かわいそうだから、
大事に使って、作品達を愛してくれる人に買ってもらいたい

We must work to make ends meet, however, considering the current sword makers' situation, it would be difficult to support themselves just by making swords.

First off, we have to show our swords more often. Otherwise we won't acquire new customers, neither increase sword lovers.

Completing one piece and making a customer happy gives me a joy.
I won't sell my swords to anybody. I want my customers to love swords and knives. This is my most happiness.
I feel bad when pieces are handled not properly. I want my customers to handle them with a good care and love them.

　留学先であるA大学医学部脳神経外科では、脳神経外科手術を幅広く行なっているため、これら手術および病棟での周術期管理について、許される範囲で参加する。特に、後頭蓋窩の手術と機能的脳神経外科手術については、当院での診療を念頭に置き、積極的にディスカッションする。また、現在研究中の術式Bに関しては、検査所見や患者背景などに着目し、フランス人と日本人の違いについて考察する。さらに、A大学は来年開催される脳神経外科学会を主催する予定なので、この学会へも積極的に参加して見聞を広める。

In the department of neurosurgery of A medical university where I study abroad, since they perform various neurosurgical operations, they will discuss about their perioperative management regarding their surgical operations and in their hospital ward under the circumstances. Especially on the subject of operations of posterior cranial fossa and functional neurosurgery, keeping our medical practice in mind, we will discuss actively. And, regarding Operation B that is under research, we will pay attention to the laboratory findings and paitient backgrounds, and will look into the difference between French and Japanese point of views. Furthermore, since A university is planning to host a Society of Neurosurgery next year, they will broaden their horizen to attend the meeting proactively.
