One of the bands most synonymous with current Los Angeles hardcore are Rotting Out, primed to release their sophomore album on May 7 via 6131 Records. Fresh off an opening run with the Ghost Inside, Stray From The Path and Stick To Your Guns, the band was slated to support Your Demise this summer. The headliner have prematurely called it quits and dropped the dates, but Rotting Out have salvaged their own path. Stream their new full-length, The Wrong Way, in its entirety below and make sure to pre-order it now.

現在のロサンジェルスの代名詞とも言えるハードコア･ロックバンド、Rotting Outが、5月7日に6131レコードより2枚目のアルバムをリリースする。
Ghost Inside、Stray From The PathやStick To Your Gunsの前座を務めてきたRotting Outが、今夏はYour Demiseのオープニングアクトとしてツアーをする予定だったが、Your Demiseのツアーがキャンセルとなった。

この曲は、バンドのニューアルバム「Future Fire」からのファースト・シングルで、アルバムは Adelineレコードから6月9日に発売予定で現在、予約を受けつけている。

【アルバムレビュー】ザ・ワンダー・イヤーズ の「THE GREATEST GENERATION」

The Greatest Generation is the final installment of the Wonder Years’ trilogy of records documenting the struggles of man versus self, others and the future.But even more than that, The Greatest Generation represents how, given enough time, a band can turn themselves from a joke into one of punk’s most interesting acts.Always known for his confessional lyrics, frontman Dan Campbell still opens himself up to criticism (“Passing Through A Screen Door”) but digs deeper and confronts his own failings (“The Devil In My Bloodstream”) while his bandmates thrash around him.(The harmonized “I’m in an aiiiiirpoooooort!” in “Dismantling Summer” will give you goose bumps.)

「The Greatest Generation」は、人間が自身と他人、そして未来と葛藤する様を記録したザ・ワンダー・イヤーズの三部作から成るアルバムの最終章となる作品だ。このアルバムをもって、いかにバンドが時間をかけて、日の当たらない存在からパンクバンド界で尊敬される存在になったかを証明している。
気持ちを吐露した作詞で知られるフロントマンのダン・キャンベルは、今回も“Passing Through A Screen Door”で批判的な姿勢を崩さず、“The Devil In My Bloodstream”では、更に深く自分の欠点と向き合っている。“Dismantling Summer”のバンドメンバーのコーラス“I’m in an aiiiiirpoooooort!”では、鳥肌が立つこと間違いない。

The Wonder Years are no longer pulling from old Starting Line and Saves The Day albums for musical inspiration; instead, on The Greatest Generation, they’ve figured out how to be the band they always wanted to be.It’s fast; it’s honest, and it’ll probably make you tear up more than once.

もはやザ・ワンダー・イヤーズは、かつてのStarting LineやSaves The Dayの音楽的な請け売りではなく、The Greatest Generationで自分たちが求めていたスタイルを確立した。ノリが良く正直な音。このアルバムを聴けば、少なからず一度は涙ぐむことだろう。

【アルバムレビュー】ROTTING OUT – 「THE WRONG WAY 」

There’s a hilarious moment with 30 seconds left on the tune “No Clue,” by Los Angeles old-school hardcore band Rotting Out, where it quickly switches from mid-tempo crossover hardcore similar to early D.R.I. or M.O.D. into a dead ringer for the spazz section of Suicidal Tendencies’ “Institutionalized,” all punky, choppy and serrated.An obvious ode to their hardcore heroes is tagged all over The Wrong Way: the gallopy crossover riffs, funked-out distorted bass (is he slapping?We hope so) and shouted screams about skateboarding, fucking authority and thinking for yourself.

ロサンジェルス出身のオールドスクール・ハードコアバンド、Rotting Outのアルバムに収録されている「No Clue」のラスト30秒に興味深いパートがある。
初期のD.R.IやM.O.Dを彷彿させるミッドテンポのクロスオーバー・ハードコア系の音から、まるでSuicidal Tendenciesのパンキッシュかつ荒削りな曲、「Institutionalized」の雄叫び部分のような音へと急変するのだ。
この「The Wrong Way」には、バンドが崇拝するハードコア系バンドへの想いが、至るところに感じられる。急ピッチなクロスオーバー・リフや、ファンクっぽいディストーションの効いたベース（スラップだといいが実際は不明）に、スケートボードや権力への反抗、勝手な言い分を歌った歌詞などだ。

The trouble with the crossover and thrash resurgence, with bands like Municipal Waste and This Is Hell leading the charge, is the old-schoolers sometimes shrug it off as retro for sake of being retro, while the new-schoolers just can’t quite understand its relentlessness.Rotting Out might find some common ground in the fast-core of “Blade Of Rust” or the groove-heavy “Stab,” which sounds more like ’00s Warriors than ’80s Cryptic Slaughter.

Municipal WasteやThis Is Hellなどに代表されるクロスオーバーや、スラッシュメタルの復活で問題になるのは、彼らのようなオールドスクール系バンドは、「レトロで何が悪い」といった姿勢を貫いているところだ。一方でニュースクール系バンドは、彼らの変化のなさを理解できない。
そんな中Rotting Outは、ファスト・コアな「Blade Of Rust」やヘヴィーなグルーヴの「Stab」で、オールドスクールとニュースクールの両方が落ち着ける音を見つけたようだ。80年代のCryptic Slaughterというよりは、2000年代のWarriors寄りの音だ。
