Over the last two decades, asking about people’s nationality, gender, or ethnic origin has been increasingly regarded as discrimination. Perhaps asking for their education and expertise is, too. As contribution to innovation is changing and advancing, why alienate people who may bring fresh ideas? When pairing artists with technology, instead of doubting their expertise, we should ask whether these celebrities could focus on these projects to learn basics from scratch. Or whether other team members are ready to work with an outsider and be open enough to value basic questions.

Enabled by Android 2.2 system, Omate sports MTK dual-core processer and 240*240 pixels resolution. With the gadget, users can make phone calls, take pictures and receive messages from Android-powered smartphone that is bundled with it.

The product is expected to hit market by the end of this year. But actually, it is already available on the market, since Umeox has unveiled an Omate-based custom smartwatch for Babytree, an e-commerce company specializing in the sale of maternal and infant care products. With a price tag of 1,499 yuan, 2,000 sets of the product have been sold out on the first day of its release.

Umeox just rolled out 360 Child Guard, a kid tracking bracelet, with Qihoo last week.

4. RoseOnly

RoseOnly is a high-tier online flower store. It opened the first bricks-and mortar store this September. The company received millions of yuan in Series A financing from Trends Group and tens of million dollars in Series B funding from Tencent in the past eight months.

5. Etaoshi

Etaoshi is an online food ordering and delivery platform, offering one-stop catering services of restaurant reservation, ordering, payment, and delivery. Etaoshi is the partner of Taobao Diandian, Alibaba’s Dianping-like service. The company has secured $6 million of Series A financing this July.

4. RoseOnly

RoseOnlyは花を専門とする高級志向のオンラインストアで、9月に初の実店舗をオープンした。同社は過去8か月の間に、数百万元のSeries A融資をTrends Groupから、数千万米ドルのSeries B融資をTencentから受けている。

5. Etaoshi

Etaoshiは料理の注文・デリバリーのオンラインプラットフォームで、レストランの予約・注文・支払い・デリバリーの全てを扱っている。EtaoshiはDianpingに似たAlibabaのサービスTaobao Diandianと業務提携を結んでいる。同社は7月に6百万米ドルのSeries A融資を確保した。

2. Digital Green

Already operating for four years, Digital Green is an online knowledge forum and database of agricultural skills that can help farmers lower costs and increase productivity. It’s not just online, and also operates offline to train up some farmers to teach their fellow land-tillers using video screenings in villages. It’s aiming to use the money to reach a million farmers in 10,000 villages across India.

3. Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship & Democracy

Janaagraha gives people online reporting tools that help them directly reach out to civic representatives. For example, someone could snap a picture of a dangerously crumbling wall or a massive pot-hole, and the idea is that the submitted report reaches the right agency who can fix the issue. The service aims to have 1.5 million users with help from Google’s funding.

We’ve seen a similar thing being done in India with SocialCops.

3. Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship & Democracy

Janaagrahaが提供するのは、人々が適切な窓口に声を届けるのを助けるオンライン通報ツールだ。例えば危険な崩れ方をしている壁や道路の大きな窪みを誰かが写真に撮ると、それが修繕を担当する部署に届く、というアイデアだ。このサービスでは、Googleからの出資を活用して150万人のユーザーの獲得を目指している。インドではSocialCopsというサービスが既に同様のことを試みている。

4. Social Awareness, Newer Alternatives (SANA)

This one got the People’s Choice award. SANA combines solar-powered micro-ionizing water purification and biodigesting technology to improve water and sanitation infrastructure for rural villages. Basically, it’s a green-tech solution to cleaner drinking water where the waste by-products can be used to generate power.

Google decided to give the six other finalists $250,000 in seed funding. We like civic startups around here because they are a refreshing change from the dross of photo apps and shopping loyalty programs and stuff that’s been done ad infinitum ad nauseum. Hopefully we’ll be hearing from a few of these Indian ventures in future.

Titled ‘Games: King of the mobile eco-system’, the report reveals that 48 percent of all apps in the Top Overall category were games, and those apps generated 92 percent of the total revenue for Google Play. Additionally, for the iOS App Store, 52 percent of all apps in the Top Overall category were games, and generated 79 percent of revenue.

「モバイル・エコシステムの王者としてのゲーム」と題されたこのレポートによると、Google PlayではTop Overallカテゴリー内のアプリの48パーセントをゲームが占め、総収益の92パーセントを生み出している。iOS App Storeでは同カテゴリー内のアプリの52パーセントがゲームであり、その収益は全体の79パーセントに該当する。

Here are more major findings, according to the Distimo September 2013 report.

1. Revenue shares of games on both iOS and Google Play have shot up 13 percent-points, as compared to the same time period last year.

2. 94 percent of revenue generated on Google Play in Korea were from games.

3. As for iOS App Store, the largest revenue share — 84 percent — from games was generated in Taiwan.

4. In the Amazon Appstore, 63 percent of all downloads were generated by games.

5. Role-playing games (RPGs) had the largest share of the revenue in the All Games category: 14 percent in the Apple App Store.

Distimoによる2013年9月のレポートはまた、次のような重要なデータを明らかにしている。

7. Games were the most downloaded apps on both iPhone and iPad. On iPhone, 33% of all downloads were games. For iPad, this portion was even higher at 48 percent.

Taiwan seems to be doing really well, in terms of game apps, as 89 percent of the total revenue in Google Play for the market was generated by that particular industry.

Distimo’s analyst, Tiuri van Agten, writes, “Paid content was banned on Google Play in Taiwan for a long time. The consumers’ protection laws demanded a 7-day trial period, while Google only offered a 15-minute trial period. In early 2013, this ban was lifted and paid content became available on Google Play in Taiwan.”

The report concluds that Asian countries have a higher revenue share for games, compared to their European counterparts.

DistimoのアナリストであるTiuri van Agten氏はこう書いている。「台湾では長い間Google Playの有料コンテンツが禁止されていました。消費者保護の法律によって7日間の試用期間の設定が求められていた一方で、Google Playで提供されている試用期間の設定は15分だけだったのです。2013年の初旬にこの禁止が解かれ、台湾でもGoogle Playの有料コンテンツが利用可能になりました。」

In terms of genres, Distimo’s report notes that the top five categories for iOS App Store, in terms of how lucrative they are, are: Roleplaying; Strategy; Action; Simulation; and Adventure.

Google Play’s top five categories in revenue generation are: Arcade & Action; Casual; Brain & Puzzle; Cards & Casino; and Sports Games.

However, there are cases where an app can fall under multiple categories in the iOS App Store. One example would be Mojang’s Minecraft – Pocket Edition, which was well-received in both the Simulation and Adventure categories.
