Looking at the big picture, what distinguishes your digital endeavor compared to others out there?

MeetDoctor is a digital health platform, that’s how we call ourselves. We are definitely not a portal. I like the word “platform” because it means we are providing a foundation for digital healthcare activities.

Today our main services are online consultation and health articles, but this is just the beginning. As a platform, we will continue improving and extending our site so that through time, many stakeholders in the healthcare industry can benefit from it.

大局的に見て、あなたのデジタルの取り組みは、現在ある他のものと比べなにが違うのでしょうか？

われわれはMeetDoctorをデジタルのヘルスプラットフォームと呼んでいます。われわれはけっしてポータルではありません。われわれが「プラットフォーム」という言葉を気に入っているのは、それがわれわれがデジタルのヘルスケア活動の基盤を提供しているということを意味しているからです。

現在のわれわれの主要なサービスはオンラインでの相談と健康に関する記事を公開することです。今後ヘルスケア業界の多くのステークホルダーに利益を提供できるよう、プラットフォームとしてわれわれはMeetDoctorのサイトの改善、拡張を継続しようと考えています。

What encouraged you to play and scale up in this field?

Healthcare is something that people will always need and they will also seek for help in looking for the right services. We want to help the healthcare ecosystem by providing a digital platform where patients and health care providers to interact and be engaged.

We are very optimistic that MeetDoctor will be the solution for people to improve and maintain their health through our educational content, online consultation and other services that we are going to launch soon. While these are currently in Indonesia, hopefully one day we can extend our services to Asia.

Me and my partners share the same philosophy: we want to help people, while we are also doing a healthy business.

About members, visitors and active users — any numbers to disclose?

We have more than 16,000 members registered at our site. But the great thing is there are almost 15,000 people visiting our site daily, and we barely did any advertising and promotion.

Among those members, around 35 to 40 percent are considered active. They probably feel the benefit of our platform already, so that they keep coming back whenever they have questions regarding their health.

What are you up to and where are you heading this year?

Our target is to continue building our platform, improving and extending our services (we now have almost 150 doctors in our network to answer the consultations). We will continue to grow our partnership with many healthcare providers, doctors and the media, among others.

From media side, we have been partnering with Yahoo She Indonesia for more than six months now, and we are soon to be partner with PlasaMSN and Intisari Online. As for hospitals, we already partnered with RS Pondok Indah, RS Puri Indah, Brawijaya Women and Children Hospital, RS Husada Utama, RS Bunda Medik, Santosa Hospital Bandung.

At this stage, our main services are online consultation and health articles, but this is just the beginning. As a platform, we will continue improving and growing our services.

Back in October, Cubie secured $1.1 million in seed funding from a number of investors including Japan’s B Dash Ventures and it also joined 500 Startups. With links to Asia and the US thanks to its diverse group of investors, the young company expects to make further inroads internationally. Cubie can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play.

[Update] James Hill emailed to clarify that “the addition of Spanish led to an increase in US downloads in English”, which was why the team was surprised.

Apple, Cook said, has "a lot more surprises in the works."

Cook's comments would appear to throw cold water on the predictions of some outlets that Apple is close to releasing new models of its bestselling iPhone and iPad. Some even purport to have secured components and casings from such devices.

A fall release for a new iPhone, for instance, would be in somewhat in keeping with the company's near-yearly rollout schedule for that device. Still, though, some have assumed that, in order to address competition from other manufacturers, Apple might move to a more aggressive update schedule for not only its iPhone, but also its iPad.

Apple did increase the display on its flagship handset last year with the launch of the iPhone 5, adopting a taller — but not wider — 4-inch display. All previous generation iPhone models featured a shorter 3.5-inch display.

In unveiling the larger iPhone display, Apple touted that the handset could still easily be operated while being held with one hand. Competing handsets with larger displays make it more difficult for users to reach the corners of the display without two-hand operation, the company said.

Still, smartphones with screen sizes of 5 inches and even greater have found noteworthy success in the growing smartphone space. Leading the way in that market has been Samsung's Galaxy Note series, which includes a stylus.

There have been rumors that Apple is secretly working on a new iPhone model with a larger 5-inch display for launch as soon as this year. However, there has been no concrete evidence that the launch of such a product is impending.

Purported iPad 5 Rear Shell Shows Off New Form Factor

I have to admit,I hadn’t heard of case maker Tactus until last week,but in the space of just a few days it has published an unveiling date and specifications for the fifth-generation iPad,the plastic casing for Apple’s rumored low-cost iPhone,and now the fifth-generation iPad’s new aluminum shell.

Although there’s no way of confirming this shell is genuine — it could have been manufactured by a third-party company building fakes — it looks pretty convincing to us.As expected,it looks just like a bigger version of the iPad mini’s rear shell.

Sorry to be a pain but I'm confused again... It says the low e string is an 084 for this model. That's different than my 90's Japan bass VI which has 095 (much larger string). Wikipedia also says bass VI should be 095 not the smaller 084. Can you verify which it is? Will it work with 095 strings? Sorry for all the questions, just looking for a real bass vi to replace the one i'm using...

10 Philippine startups get seed funding from IdeaSpace

Philippine startup incubator IdeaSpace has announced the ten winners of its national startup competition. The startups will each receive P500k (USD 12k) in seed funding and six months of incubation, where they will get office space, business operations support, and housing facilities for those not based in Metro Manila.

During the incubation period, the more promising startups could receive additional cash support from IdeaSpace of up to P5 million. Teams will also be introduced to other investors in Philippines, Silicon Valley, and other parts of the world.

What’s striking about the finalists are the types of problems they’re trying to solve. While they include your usual, hardware, software, and mobile startups, a large amount of them are tackling opportunities in agriculture, energy, healthcare, and transport. These finalists were picked from over 700 entries.

IdeaSpace was launched in March 2012 as a non-profit organization that has drawn support from First Pacific Company, Metro Pacific Investments and the PLDT group, chaired by successful tech entrepreneur Manuel V. Pangilinan. It has received P500 million (USD 12.1M) in funding for five years. IdeaSpace’s CEO is Earl Valencia (his story here).

Burpple unveils Pages, a website builder for food businesses

Easy-to-use Website builders are a dime a dozen these days, with Wix coming to mind for general uses and Shopify catering to e-commerce businesses. But how about one for food establishments?

That’s what Burpple is offering. Burpple, if you recall, is a mobile social network for foodies with a growing and passionate fan base. But cognizant of the fact that pure consumer products without a revenue model won’t fly in this part of the world where acquisitions are relatively uncommon, the company has decided to monetize early in its life.

Pages, a new product which was unveiled yesterday, is a webpage builder for restaurants, bars, and food establishments. While it hasn’t officially launched yet, Burpple CEO Elisha Ong gave a hint of what is to come by sharing its landing page on Facebook.

It does more than spew out mobile-friendly HTML and CSS. Pages includes the ability to display interactive menus, it leverages on its mobile social network to promote an establishment through recommendations and testimonials, and it integrates online food ordering for takeaway or delivery (its partnership with Chope probably has something to do with that).
