"Stranger by the Lake" is the sexiest and most elegant thriller in years, and it's a damn shame it stands so little chance of traveling beyond the niche of a "gay film" it will probably get squeezed into. This French movie, written and directed by Alain Guiraudie, is set in a single location and has a dreamy quality to it: a mixture of allure and menace that's quite intoxicating. We never leave a sunny gay cruising area the characters are frequenting—a lake, a beach, a nearby boudoir of bushes—but our imagination is kept alert at all times: every image and every cut is underlined with tension.

"El deconocido del lago" es la película de suspenso más sexy y elegante en años, y es una lástima que no pase de "película gay" que seguramente es como se le ha clasificado.
Esta pelicula francesa, escrita y dirigida por Alain Guiraudie, toma lugar en una sola locación y tiene un poco de escencia soñaroda: una combinación de seducción y amenaza que son intoxicantes.
Nunca salimos del lugar 'gay' donde los personages rondan frecuentemente - un lago, una playa y un claro oculto por arbustos - pero mantinene nuestra imgainción activa: cada imagen y cada corte están enfatizados con tensión.

The main character is Franck (Pierre Deladonchamps), an attractive guy in his thirties regularly enjoying everything the cruising spot has to offer: from a chat to a swim to a tryst. We meet him on the day he strikes up a conversation with Henri (Patrick D'Assumçao), the flabby and gruff lumberjack who may alienate himself from the beach community, but seems open enough to Franck. And while the latter enjoys Henri's company, he falls in love with Michel (Christophe Paou), a sexy and mysterious Tom Selleck lookalike the entire beach is smitten with (he's like a mid-1980s gay centerfold incarnate).

El personaje principal es Franck (Pierre Deladonchamps), un muchacho en sus treintas, poco atractivo, disfrutando de todo lo que este lugar puede ofrecer: desde una conversación hasta nadar en una cita. Lo conocemos el día que comienza una conversación con Henri (Patrick D'Assumçao), el gordo y grosero leñador que parece alejarse de la comunidad de la playa pero que parece ser honesto con Franck. Y mientras este último disfruta de la compañía de Henri, se enamora de Michel (Christophe Paou), un hombre sexy y misterioso, parecido a Tom Salleck y del que todos en la playa están enamorados (es como la encarcacion gay de una revista de mediados de los 80s).

In the 11th century Ibn Al-Haytham (Al-Hazem) was called from Iraq to Egypt by the Caliph to engineer the first Aswan Damn. Ibn Al-Haytham's field work convinced him that attempting to build the dam would be a disaster and rather than face the wrath of the Caliph, he feigned madness and went to jail.
It wasn't until the British occupation of Egypt, over eight centuries later, that the first dam across the Nile was successfully built (1898-1902). At the time of the Old Aswan Dam's construction, nothing of that scale had ever been attempted. It was the largest masonry dam in the world.

En el siglo XI Ibn Al-Haytham (Al-Hezem) fue llamado de Iraq a Egipto por el Califa para crear la primera represa en Asuán.
