The reason why you are on the flat rate because your turnover was below the threshold 220,000 pounds but advantage is for the company who has standard rated sales so they calculate from all your net sales (in your case zero rated and standard rated net sales an multiplied 7.5% VAT rate which is payable to HMRC and you cant deduct any import VAT or purchases related to UK VAT return)
