一体どこから建築に紙管を使うなどという発想が出たのか？1986年、シゲル・バンという名の建築家が展覧会に向けて設計を行っていた時のことだ。お金が無かったため、バン氏は木材をあまり使用することが出来なかった。そこで彼は、たった３週間の展覧会の後で捨てられるだけのために、木材を使用するのはあまりにも無駄だと考えた。
