Pigskin leather is tanned pig hide and is used mainly as a fashion material.
In Japan, pigskin leather started manufacture from the latter half of the 19th century at Tokyo's Sumida district.
In the old days, pigskin leather had low value but it is easy to work even than cow leather therefore it was used for things that cow leather couldn't be used and along with the dwindling population of tanners, its value was reconsidered.
Furthermore, pigskin leather in Japan is from a breed of pigs called Sangen which have characteristically beautiful and large skin. Its quality is excellent even by world standards therefore it is said that Hermes, Vuitton and similar famous brands procure them from Japan.
