The map of Japan is also a point of interest in Eric’s visualization, as it’s the area with the most green, indicating ‘physical movement from place to place.’ I’m not quite clear on what to make of this representation, as there’s green all the way up the eastern coast, which is where the earthquake hit. I thought that much of this would be messages sent in the wake of the 3/11 earthquake, but it seems the data was sampled between May 17 and September 1, 2011. Eric also seems confused by what’s happening in Japan:

日本のマップもEricのビジュアル化において興味深い場所である。それは、場所から場所への移動を示す緑が最も多い地域だからである。地震に見舞われた東海岸のずっと上をこの緑が占めているという現象をどう見たらいいのかは分からない。3月11日に起きた地震の際に送られたメッセージが大部分を占めるのではないかと思ったが、データはどうやら2011年の5月17日から9月1日にかけて収集されたものらしい。Ericも日本で起きている事について困惑してるようだ。
