All my life I've been registering scores like that, so that I always feel that I'm highly intelligent, and I expect other people to think so, too. Actually, though, don't such scores simply mean that I am very good at answering a particular type of academic question - questions that are considered important by the people who make up the intelligence test - people who are intellectuals, just like me?

いつもそんな点数ばかりとっているものだから、自分は優れた頭脳の持ち主だといつも思っているし、他人にも、そう思っているんだと思う。だが実際には、そんな点数が意味するものなんて、単に僕（私）が特定のタイプの学問的な問題、つまり、知能テストを作成している、僕（私）みたいに知識に長けた人たちが重要視している問題に答えるのに長けているということに過ぎないんじゃないだろうか？
