郵便局に相談したのですが、普通に郵送事故で紛失した場合と違い、現地で「受取済」の状態になっている場合は少し手続の仕方が違うようです。この場合は日本から調査申請を出しても、「受取済み」という返答のみしか出ないとの事です
荷物をアメリカの郵便局が誰に渡したのかという事が問題の様で、それは日本の郵便局の管轄ではないとの事です

おっしゃるように、米国の名称はThe United State of Americaですが、一般的な会話ではU.S.が多く使われます。この文はメールのカジュアルな文なので、U.S.でいいと思いますが、もちろんthe U. S.でも間違いではありませんし、フォーマルな文書の場合はthe U.S.の方が適当だと思われます。見出しにもthe U.S.が使えます。今日のニュースの見出しを見ますと、theあり、なしと両方ありますね。
