Cats are affectionate animals and they often sleep with people. Cats sleep in short periods, rather than a single long period like people. They quickly awaken, ready to do anything at anytime. 猫は心優しい動物で、人間と一緒に寝ることもよくあります。猫は、人間のように一回だけ長く眠るのではなく、何度も短く眠ります。猫は素早く目を覚ますことができ、いつどんなことが起こっても対応できます。猫は、特に夜間、神経が研ぎまされ活動的です。というのも、夜には、ネズミが起きだしており、犬は眠りこんでいるからです。猫は犬よりも視覚と聴覚が格段に優れており、自分の体を清潔に保つこともできます。大昔、猫はなわばりの外側に自分の排せつ物を埋めたものです。こういった特徴があるため、猫は、ある時は助手として、またある時は友達として、人間社会の一員になりました。猫はすっかり人間生活に定着しています。
