Serving as the place where the Shinano River connects with its tributaries, the Sanjou area was at a key location on Niigata plains and enjoyed prosperous interchange and commerce with other areas at that time. The area was constantly introduced to new blacksmithing methods and technologies, which it used to manufacture sharp-edged tools such as knives and farm implements.

Those metal hardware were sold by peddlers all over the country since the Edo period, and it soon flourished as a manufacturing industry.
The traditional metalworking technology that has been cultivated on these soils for many years, combined with new technology that has been aggressively sought, today's Sanjou area is producing products of superior quality every day.
