English

Thank you for your contact.

We shipped your item on January 18 via airmail (without tracking) by Japan Post, which should have reached you around January 28. Nowing that you have not received the item, we assume that it could be lost during transit or seized by the customs. We apologize for keeping you waiting for such a long time, and will send a same item to you by airmail, with tracking. We will let you know a tracking number after we post it. Thank you very much for your patience.

A few stylistic and grammar mistakes here and here. Pay attention to the use of "the" with nouns that are unique in the context ("the trancking number" - the one assigned to the item, not some other random tracking number, etc).

Thank you for the review.
let you know a tracking number は the にしたいところなんですが、ネイティブさんがこのようなとき(送ったら教えます、という明らかに特定できそうなとき)に a tracking number と書いていらしたのを見て、こうしています。the じゃないんだ~、と思ったものです。

I googled the phrase just now ("let you know the tracking number") and it seems it is indeed possible to use "a" in this context - although there are 20x more results for the "let you know the tracking number" version, which always sounded more natural to me. Still, both versions seem to be in use, so I you are right there.

I think both versions are correct, but I decided to add "we" because of the "," that comes before it - it seems more natural to me when you read the sentence out loud. I googled it and it seems that usually there is no "," used in this type of sentence pattern ("I apologize for... and will").

Typos like "nowing" happen to everyone - in the previous comment, I accidentally typed an extra "I" in the last sentence for some reason.

Pretty sure you can only use "a same" in phrases like "a same-sex marriage". According to some websites I just checked, in almost any other case "same" should be used together with "the".

It's nice to discuss English grammar with other translators - it's a good way of improving your own English and learning new things. Frankly, I should have rated this translation as 4 stars now that I think about it; 3 star rating doesn't lower the score, though, so I suppose it's not a problem.

(And by the way, your English -> Japanese translations are very well phrased and flow so nicely - even a non-native such as myself can tell that. I'm actually kinda envious.)

あ、レーティングはお気になさらず。
英→日、おほめいただいて恐縮ですが、あたしゃ(私は)、日本人ですからネ ^^)v

Oh, I was fully aware you are a native speaker when you said that. It's just your translations sound more natural than the texts translated by most of my Japanese friends. ;)
