かつて、高野山が女人禁制だったのに対し、この室生寺は女性も参拝できたことから「女人高野」と呼ばれたそうです。

Mount Koya used to be closed for female while this Muro-ji was opened for female, so Muro-ji was called "Myonin Koya".
