Their ships came into violent collision, Menodorus losing his prow　and Menecrates his oar-blades.

突っ込んでくる船首に対して戦った。Menecratesは自分が気に入るように撤退してから新たに攻撃を加え、順次、新たな船を送り込むチャンスを得た。一方敵は岩礁に座礁して行きづまり、身動きが取れなくなっていた。彼らは海軍と戦う陸軍のように進むことも撤退することも出来なかった。このような状況の中、MenodorusとMenecratesは残りの戦いを捨てて互いの姿を視野の中に入れた。それから、どちらが勝者になるにせよ、戦争の結果をこの対戦に掛けたかのように互いに一斉に怒り、叫び声を上げて突進していった。船は激しくぶつかり合い、Menodorusは船首を失い、Menecratesはオールの先を失った。
