In these three chapter,I wish to draw attention to the social and religious implications of a revolution in the social imagination that accompanied the rise and establishment of the Christian Church in the Roman empire in the late antique piriod,that is,between the years 300 and of the Common Era.It is a revolution closely associated with the rise to power of the Christian bishop as an increasingly prominent leader in late Roman society.For the Christian bishop was held by contemporaries to owe his position in no small part to his role as the guradian of the poor.He was the "lover of the poor"par excellence:"A bishop who loves the poor,thesame is rich,and his city and region shall honor him."

これらの３つの章で、西暦紀元３００年、古代後期のいてのローマ帝国の協会の高まりと設立に付随する社会的構想力においての社会性、宗教性の変革への注意を引き出すことを願う。それはローマ社会後期のいよいよ卓越したリーダーである司教の権力の浮上と結び付けられる改革である。司教は貧しい者の守護者としての彼の役割が、彼の立場において大きな部分を占めていることによって保持されていた。彼はずば抜けて優秀な「貧者を愛する者」であった。貧者を愛する司教は、富める者、彼の町、そして地域も彼を尊敬した。」
