2003年に、新潟県の越後妻有と呼ばれる地方で三年に一度行われている「大地の芸術祭」に行ったときに、こいつはえらいもんを作ったなぁと思ったのが光の館だった。

その同時期、谷崎潤一郎の「陰影礼賛」を読んで蛍光灯にひどく嫌悪感を感じていたり、日本の近代文化に関する光と闇の興亡にひどく敏感になっている時だったから、余計心に残るものが大きかったのかもしれない。

House of Light
In 2003 I visited "Earth Art Festival" in an areal called Echigo-tsumari in Niigata, I was so overwhelmed to see the house of light.

In the same period, I had read Junichiro Tanizaki's "In Prase of Shadows" and I felt disgust about fluorescent lights, and was very sensitive to the fate of light and shadow related to Japanese modern cultures. Maybe that was because the impact was extremely huge.
