Authoritarianism was assessed in1995 using 10 items selected from Altemeyer's(1988) Right- Wing Authoritarianism scale. Current versions of the RWA scale contain 20 items. The 10 items used in 1995 were answered on a 5-point scale. A sample item included" In these troubled times laws have to be enforced without mercy, especially when dealing with the agitators and revolutionaries who are stirring things up." In the current sample, the 10 items of the RWA scale(5 items were reverse scored) had an alpha of .78. The item mean was 2.30. In 2005, general life satisfaction was assessed using the Satisfaction With Life Scale, developed by Diener and colleagues.

権威主義はAltemeyerの保守的権威主義(1988年）的尺度から選んだ10項目を用いて、1995年に査定された。RWA尺度最新版には２０項目が含まれている。1995年に用いられた10項目は５ポイント尺度に合致している。サンプルには「今の乱世の時代には法は慈悲や情けなく施行されるべきで、特に事を荒立てている扇動家や革命家の場合はそういうことが言える。」の項目も含まれていた。現サンプルでは、RWA尺度の10項目（5項目は逆採点された）には78のαがあった。項目平均値は2.30だった。2005年、Dienerが同僚と開発した「人生に対する満足尺度」を用いて人生一般に対する満足度が査定された。
