The new app replaces the stale-looking old one as well as adding support for the popular iPad. It brings the TV station more in line with the good-looking apps from the likes of CNN and the BBC. Unfortunately, the Android version is still stuck in the digital Dark Ages, and also needs this kind of refresh at some point.

Articles can be downloaded within the new app for offline reading – which is a good feature that not many news apps bother with. But then Channel NewsAsia goes and spoils it all by only allowing these to be viewable for three days. So you’d still be better off using Instagram or Pocket (formerly ReadItLater) for saving items to read at your leisure.

この新アプリは、古くさくなった旧アプリの代替となる上、人気の iPad にも対応している。これにより、TV局は、CNNやBBC 等のかっこいいアプリと足並みをそろえることができた。Android 版はまだデジタルの暗黒時代の中にあるが、ある時点でこの種のリフレッシュが必要になるだろう。

記事は、オフラインで読めるように新アプリ内でダウンロードできるが、これは良い機能であり、多くのニュースアプリがあまり持っていないものだ。しかしその一方で、Channel NewsAsia は記事を3日間しか見れないよう制限しているため、せっかくの機能全てをだめにしている。このため、今でも、後で暇な時に読むために保存するには、Instagram や Pocket（旧名 ReadItLater）を使う方がましだ。
