日本自動車販売協会連合会が発表した2011年度（2011年4月～12年3月）の新車登録台数（軽除く）は前年度比3.1％増の306万4336台となり、2年ぶりに300万台を上回った。

東日本大震災によるサプライチェーン寸断による影響で新車の生産・供給が滞り、年度前半は大幅に落ち込んだものの、部品調達の正常化で生産が急回復した。加えてエコカー補助金の復活で需要が急増、前年を上回った。

New Car Sales for FY2011 reaches 3 Mil., First Time in 2 Years

Japan’s vehicle registration for new cars (excluding mini-vehicles) rose 3.1 percent from the previous year to 3,064,336 units, surpassing a 3 million unit level for the first time in 2 years, according to the FY2011 (April 2011 - March 2012) statistics announced by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.

Supply and production of new vehicles were slowed because of disrupted automobile supply chain caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, decreasing the new cars sale significantly in the first half of FY2011. However, as the procurement of components returned to normal, automobile production quickly recovered. The demand for new cars was also increased sharply by the government’s resumed subsidy program for ecologically-friendly cars, giving the sales a better result than the last year.
