One lesson that life teaches as we grow older is that both our fears and our hopes are mostly illusions and are not to be taken too seriously. Time after time we learn that that which we fear most in life never happens, or never happens exactly as we had dreaded. In addition, we have undreamed-of strength to bear the difficulty.
年をとるにつれ人生で学ぶ教訓のひとつは、我々が抱く恐れや希望はほとんど幻想であり深刻に悩む必要なないということだ。生きていく中で一番恐れていることは決して起こらないし、案じていたことがその通り起こるなんてこともあり得ないということを我々は何度も経験している。さらに言えば、我々は困難に耐えうる思いも寄らなぬ強さを持っている。
