境界の彼方は、妖夢と呼ばれる人間を脅かす異形のモノを狩る「異界士」たちの物語です。
主人公の神原秋人は飄々としていてどこにでもいる普通の高校生に見えますが、妖夢の血を半分受け継いだ「半妖」といわれる不死身の存在です。ヒロイン栗山未来は眼鏡がよく似合う高校1年生ですが、自分の血を刃に変えて相手を断つ能力を持つ異界士でもあります。「虚ろな影」と呼ばれる妖夢を倒すため、その練習台として（！？）秋人を襲います。
Kyoukai no Kanata is a story about "Spirit World Warriors" hunting "Youmu", creatures threatening humans.
The main character, Kanbara Akito, might look like a plain high schooler, but he's a "Han'you", meaning that half of his blood was inherited from a Youmu, an immortal being. The heroine, Kuriyama Mirai is a first-year high school girl who looks good in glasses, but she's also a Spirit World Warrior, able to turn her blood into a blade to fight. To defeat a Youmu called "The Empty Shadow", she attacks Akito, using him as a "training specimen".
が、いつもドジり軽くあしらわれてしまいます。さらに眼鏡っ子が好きな秋人からは逆にいろいろ世話を焼かれます。
宿敵から施しを受けるのをよしとはしない…のが普通なのでしょうが、極貧生活で衣食住ままならない未来はたびたび秋人から食事を奢ってもらいます。
二人がそれぞれに抱えた「宿命」や「試練」など、シリアスな部分も多々でてきますが、いい意味で堅苦しくない展開が続きます。比較的安心して見ることができる作品です。
However, being clumsy, she's not treated seriously. Also, Akito, liking girls in glasses, ends up helping her a lot instead.
She doesn't like accepting help from an enemy... obviously, but Mirai, living a poor life, having only the necessities, she gradually starts being fed by Akito.
The two have their own "fates" and "trials", so the story does get serious a lot as well, but the plot develops in an informally, in a good way. Comparatively, it's a story that can be enjoyed at peace.
そして何かあるたびに決めぜりふ「不愉快です…」をつぶやく未来が、非常にかわいいです。攻撃をミスって慌てふためくところとか、やっているブログが絶えず炎上しまくりでへこんでいるところとか。よしよし、としたくなります。眼鏡っ子好きやドジっ子好きにはたまらないキャラでしょう。
ちなみにこの作品の製作が「京都アニメーション」。そう、学園祭のバンド回とエンディングのダンスが話題となった「涼宮ハルヒ」シリーズを作ったところです。今回も第６話で歌＋ダンスが披露されます。そこも要チェックです。
Also, each time something happens, Mirai saying her catchphrase "This is unpleasant..." is very cute. When she misses her target in battle and panics, or when her blog is constantly "on fire" and she's sad, for example. You just want to console her.
It's a character that enthusiasts of glasses girls or clumsy girls won't have enough of.
