[Announcement] TOS changes for Conyac requester users

28 Jan 2015 at 10:33
We have responded to requests for "a pricing system easier to understand than the points system". From February 4th, Conyac will phase out its points system, changing it to a pricing system with payment per request in Japanese yen, or U.S. dollars (henceforth dollars).Below we have provided an overview of the important points to note as part of these changes as well as the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Payment currency settings

The currency used for payment will vary between users. Conyac staff will set the payment currency as either yen or dollars in line with the currency used in past payments. Please understand that this cannot be changed. Users who have not purchased any points previously will have their currency set based on the language in which they view the site.

e.g. User who has purchased points previously → Purchased points with dollars → Payments to be in dollars
User who has never purchased points → Views site in Japanese → Payments to be in yen

Current points balance

Your current points balance will be converted to coupon credit valid for six months, in accordance with the aforementioned settings.
One point will be converted to ¥1.5 or $0.015 of credit and be added to your account. Please be assured that there is no difference in the quantity of requests than can be made between the two currencies.

Displayed prices for future translation requests

Displayed pricing for translation requests have changed as outlined below.

Standard Request:
For original texts in Japanese/Chinese/Korean ¥6($0.06), in all other languages ¥1.5($0.015) per character

Double-check pricing - Standard Request price × 2
Premium Request pricing - Standard Request price × 1.5

Light Requests:
¥300($3) per request

Private Option - ¥300($3) per request

Package plans phase out

As all Light and Standard Requests made on Conyac in future will be made on an individual request basis, we have phased out the package plans which were previously provided. We have plans to launch new campaigns and provide coupon codes, so there will be a separate announcement for the dates and details regarding these campaigns.

Private Light Request Plan

The 1000 points provided as part of the Private Light Requests Plan will be issued as ¥1500($15) of coupon credit to be used when making both Light and Standard Requests. This coupon credit will be added to your account, and can be used for translation requests directly.

Group feature

As the points system has been phased out, the point usage limit for each group member will be converted to the maximum usage limit that can be used for individual request payments.

e.g. Point usage limit of 5,000 points → Maximum usage limit of ¥7,500($75) for individual request payments

Please be aware that credit cards registered by group Admin under payment options, may be used by group members (including the manager) to make translation requests with the amount owing billed to the card, without consent of the Admin.

Addition of Refund feature

Refunds are only available for cases from February 4th where an individual translation has not been completed as had been paid for.
Details regarding the new feature will be announced at a later date. Minimum payment and processing fees for refunds under these circumstances are outlined below.

Refunds to domestic (Japanese) banks - Min. refund amount ¥1000, Transaction fee ¥540
* For refunds to Japanese banks in dollars, transactions will be made in Japanese yen based on the exchange rate on the transaction date.

Refunds to overseas (non-Japanese) banks - Min. refund amount ¥6000($60), Transaction fee ¥5000($50)

In line with these changes, changes have also been made to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. For further details regarding these changes, please refer to link below.
