我々の作品でもI-hでは外周に塀を廻らせて廻りから見えないようにしていますし例外的にオープンなR-hは独身者の住まいで周囲から見える二階をプライベートな場所として開口部を減らし地形によって周囲から見えない一階をガラス張りにしています。またこの住宅の一階はどちらかというとパブリックな使い方をされています。
日本では子どもが個室に閉じこもるのはあまり歓迎されず大体10歳位から個室を与えられます。我々の住宅の住人の子ども達はその年齢に達していないのでまだ不満は聴いていません。

For our works, I-h has outside walls so it cannot be seen from outside, and exceptionally R-h is an open house for single resident, the second floor which can be seen from outside is used as private space with less apertural area. Depending on the landform, glass-walls are used for first floor where it can not be seen from outside. Also, first floor of this house is used for rather public purpose.
In Japan, we don't like our children to stay in their room that much, and usually they are given their own room at around the age of 10. Children of the residents living in our houses have not reached that age yet, so we haven't had any complaints so far.

ただ、我々は昔から障子によってプライバシーをつくり出すような暮らしをしていたので現代ではガラスとカーテンがそれに置き換わっているように思います。
私の設計した住宅に関する限り事故は聴いたことがないです。
子どもが小さな期間はネットを張ったりして安全に使用できるようにしています。
日本人は公共空間の安全に関しては過剰に敏感なのですが、私的空間については
個人の判断が重要視されます。
I-Hはリノベーションですので階段もあり梯子以外にも入口はあります。普通に使うことは全く可能です。

While the children are little, we put nets etc to assure safety.
Japanese people are oversensitive when it comes to safety in public space, but individual judgement counts for personal spaces.
I-H is a renovated house and has stairs, other than a ladder, there is an entrace. There is no proble for ordinary use.

梯子は住人の要望で付けました。住人は林業を職業にしているので梯子を登ったり
下りたりするのは慣れているようでした。ただ、私も自宅で梯子を使っているのですが
慣れると楽で、独特の感覚を空間に与えるので建築の要素として使えるものだと思います。
ボルダリングは練習の為の場所で、このような場所が住宅についているのは特殊で、
日本でも同様に注意を惹きます。

Ladder was attached due to request from the resident. The resident works in forest industry, so he seemed to be used to going up and down the ladder. However, I use latter at home and once I get used to it, it's easy to use. It adds a special feeling to the space, so I guess it can be used as an element of the architecture. Bouldering is a place for practice. Since it's a rare case that the house as such place, it draws people's attention in Japan as well.

We have set up a ladder by tenant's request. Because this tenant is engaged in Forestry, he is used to climbing up and down the ladder. I'm also using ladder in my own house. It's very useful if you get used to it and I think it can be used as an element of architecture because it gives distinctive personality to the open space. Having a place to practice bouldering in a house is special. This will also capture people's attention in Japan.
