戦後の東京。小説家は酒に溺れ、借金を繰り返し、浮気もするという自堕落な男だった。ある日、その男は酒代を踏み倒した上に金を盗んでしまう。そこで妻は、その件を警察沙汰にしない代わりに酒屋で働くことにする。

After the war in Tokyo, the novelist was a sloppy guy who got drunk and borrowed money again and again, and had secret affair as well. One day, that guy shirked the alcohol charges and stole money. Then, his wife decided to start working for that bar instead of making the case as a police matter.
