And the scene which the rock hammer was broken and renewed on the way does not appear in the movie. In the movie version, the jailbreak is not expected until the last. Personally I like the movie version better because the tension is well built to the level in which Andy might have decided to kill himself in the movie. It was also different between the movie and the original novel that the Brooks's death after his long fifty years in prison and the release on parole. In the movie, spending a long time in prison and then finally going to outside, he could not adjust to the outside world and hang himself nevertheless he got the freedom. But in the original novel, he died in prison.

The movie doesn't have the scene of having a new rock hammer, too. In the movie, we cannot expect the result of the jailbreak till the end, and I like better the movie version because Andy, losing his hope, was such a thriller that he made us think that he decided to accept his death in the end. The movie scene of Brooks, the old man released on parole after his 50 years of imprisonment, was different from the original. In the original, he died in the prison, while he chose to commit a suicide being unaccustomed to living an ordinary life though he was free after.the long period of imprisonment in the movie.
