I have an objection about the item's market value.

最後は公園の砂場に埋めて調査します。

40cmぐらい掘ったところで、底が見えてきたので掘削終了。
底の部分にラップで包んだビーコン端末をポトリ。

ここから徐々に砂を盛りながら通知確認を行います。

10cm、OK！　20cm、OK！！　30cm、OK！！！　40cm...　と順調に砂を盛った結果

60cmまで通知できる事が確認できました。

4. Sand (of the sandbox in the park)

There we drop the Beacon terminals in a plastic wrap.

From now on, we will start the notification testing by gradually heaping up the sand.

At 10cm deep, okay! 20 cm, okay!! 30cm, okay!!! then 40cm... as a result, we ended up going as deep as 60cm for this notification test.

購入した「試作開発用ビーコン端末」。このビーコン端末が電波を発信します。
管理アプリで、電波強度を調整することも出来ます。今回は電波強度：弱 /中/ 強の 3段階で設定しました。

Summary of Investiation

It is to test the radio reception of iPhone5S as a reception terminal when the radio was sent from a Beacon terminal on the sender's side.

弊社謹製のデモアプリ"オリレール"。
詳細な説明は省きますが、デフォルトの画面は五反田で、ビーコン端末の電波を受信すると画面が新宿に代わりプッシュ通知が来るというアプリです。
今回はこのオリレールをインストールしたiPhone5Sを検証機として使用します。

To cut the story short, the app is has its default screen set at Gotanda, and the push notification will be received when the screen image changes to Shinjuku after the Beacon terminal radio is received.
"オリレール" installed iPhone5S is used for this test.

調査開始

電波の影響が少なく、かつ遮蔽物の無い 50m強の直線を測れる場所を検討した結果、某公園へやって来ました。
3月某日、遮るものの無いだだっ広い公園で吹き付ける風が、容赦なくメンバーの体力とやる気を削ります。
寒いし、とっとと帰りたいので、さっそく調査を始めます。ビーコン端末から100m離れた場所からじりじりとにじり寄ります。

ビーコン端末を持つテックレッドの所まで歩を進めます。

50m地点を越えても受信なし。やはり、理論値と実際は違うのでしょうか。

Start of Investigation

We chose this park as a result of searching for a place where we could measure 50m+ straight distance with fewer impact of the radio and no covers.
The cold wintery wind that runs through the vast park with nothing to obstruct blows our physical strength and enthusiasm away.
Let us start our investigation and finish up ASAP to go home. We will crawl up inch by inch starting from 100m away from the Beacon terminal.

We take steps and apprach to the TechRed holding the Beacon terminal.

No reception after passed 50m. Perhaps is it after all the theoretical value different from reality?

とりあえず大切なことは、「アイビーコンは69メートルまで通知できた！」という結果をもって、今回の調査結果としたいと思います。

To conclude with this investigation, our significant finding has identified that "iBeacon has reached as far as 69 meters to notify!".

42m地点、黒いiPhone の画面が新宿に変わりました。しかし、白い iPhoneは五反田のまま、反応がありません。

しばらく待っても変化がないので、そのまま白い iPhoneのみ近づいていくと、23m地点で受信を確認しました。

同じ環境で通信距離に差が出るという不可思議な状況に疑問を感じながら、引き続き様々な電波強度のビーコン端末を使って試してみます。

何度も試したところ、下記のような結果になりました。

At 42m point, the black iPhone has changed its screen to Shinjuku. However the white one remains with Gotanda, no reaction.

No changes after a while, but approaching with only the white one has resulted in receiving the radio at 23m point.

Although being skeptic about this strange situation where the communication distances under the same testing environment have brought discrepancies, we further continue testing with the Beacon with the radio set at various strengths.

After a number of attempts, the results have brought the folloiwng findings:

黒いiPhone　10ｍ～69ｍ。白いiPhone　23ｍ～69m。

実験前に期待していた結果とはだいぶ異なる、素敵なデータが得られました。

「受信するiPhone端末によって距離に差が出た点」の原因として、

・iPhone端末の問題（生産ロット毎に性能差がある？もしくはプチ故障？）
・電波強度設定アプリがうまく作動していない？
・電波強度設定の仕方を間違えていたかも？
・ビーコン端末に個体差がある？

と、さまざまな仮説が考えられますが

Findings of Investigation

Black iPhone 10- 69m: White iPhone 23- 69m.

We have obtained an interesting data, which is far from the expected outcome prior to the experiment.

The possible cause of "the discrepancies in distance depending on the receiving iPhone terminals" are:

- iPhone terminal unique issues (Performance ability may be different per production lot? Minor diffects?)
- Malfunction with the app for the radio level setting?
- Wrong value set with the radio level setting?
- Beacon terminals may hold different performance level individually.

The above are the possible hypotheses we could think of,

前回の記事で少し触れましたが、
iBeaconの通信距離はNFCよりも長く最長 50mとも言われています。

情報収集していても
「理論値で50m」と紹介されている記事をよく目にしますが、「本当に？ 50mってどっから出てきた数字なの？」という疑問が頭をもたげます。

「50m届くか調べてみた」というような情報も見つからないし、これは事実を明らかにする必要があると感じました。

そこで今回の調査はiBeaconの通信距離にフォーカスを当てて実験をおこないます。

The theme for investigation

I touched a little bit on this in my previous article,
the communication distance of iBeacon is said to be 50 meters long at maximum, which is longer than NFC>

During my information research process,
I often see articles that talks about "50m at the theoretical value", but Ijust cannot keep questioning "Are you really sure about this? Where did you get the figure 50m coming from?"

I thought the truth ought to be revealed as I did not find any reliable information which says "We conducted an investigation testing to see if it really goes that far as 50m."

Hence therefore, our investigation this time will conduct experiments focusing on the communication distance.
