Not bizarre. They can vary as they rely on different data-sets. It took many years to ramp up technology to record the million of records we currently do, so records from around and prior to 2007 would be limited to the more popular domains at the time.

We were the first company to start indexing WHOIS data, so the data you are seeking is not available anywhere. What you see in our database is the most complete WHOIS collection available. Especially for data-sets from 10 years ago, which hold very little value in terms of security research.
