There are a lot of “what ifs” – but the team just went ahead. They raised a sum of money from their own pockets, and also from an angel investor who ploughed US$144,000 into the project. XY Mobile is essentially a start-up that helps to solve a problem, putting the Lao language onto mobile devices. But Allan told me that besides filling a gap, the start-up is still aiming for profits:


"Don’t get us wrong – we are a company and thus [we’re] aiming for profit. But we see the emerging market segments differently from others, as we aim for the rural population."
