連邦軍の圧倒的な物量と戦力に対して、ジオン軍は人型機動兵器「モビルスーツ」（MS）を実戦投入し、「コロニー落とし」と呼ばれる戦略で一気に連邦軍を劣勢に追い込む。戦争は8ヶ月以上続き、膠着状態に陥った。 やがて連邦軍もMSの研究開発「V作戦」を開始、サイド7に試作型MSと運用母艦とが搬入された。

While the Federation army has overwhelming advantage in resources and firepower, Zeon army employs Mobile Suits for the first time in battle, then drives the Federation into a corner with their stratagem called "Colony Drop". The war lasts for over 8 months, ending in a stalemate. In the end, Federation also starts "the V plan" to develop their own Mobile Suits, then tries out the prototype Mobile Suit in Side 7.
