The radiation rate in counts per minute is the number of counts divided by time in minutes. Table I gives the number of counts that are required to provide a given percentage error where percent standard error is defined as that error for which in 68 cases out of 100 the true error will not exceed the given percentage error. The nine-tenths error is that error for whicht the true reading is no different from the observed reading within the given percentage limits for 90 cases out of 100.

5.6 CHECKING CALIBRATION:
The operator should periodically check the calibration fo the instrument to verify that it is correct. This operation is described in paragraph 5.2.
