Keisai Eisen, a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, was active in the late Edo period. Known for his bijinga, or pictures of beautiful women, he also produced many shunga (erotic prints) and erotic books.
He depicted courtesans in the pleasure quarter as glamorous, strong-willed women with a full gaze.
His bijinga symbolically expresses the decadent aesthetics of the late Edo period and indicates the style that reflects the state of society.
