2010年から米国の研究開発拠点でも同様の実験を行っている。水を電気分解して水素を得る際、水素が高圧となるよう制御する。従来必要だったコンプレッサーが不要となり、コンパクトで騒音も少ないステーションができるため、ホンダは将来、家庭への展開も不可能ではないと見ている。

実験を始めたステーションは太陽光発電と購入電力を併用して電気分解に使っている。山本常務は「実証実験によりクルマに供給する機能や耐久性、今後の開発での課題など、さまざまな点を確認したい」と話した。

This system is uniquely developed by Honda and the similar experiments have been done at its development and research center in America. When obtaining hydrogen in electrolyzing water, this system makes hydrogen stay high pressured. The compressure we needed in the past is no longer necessary and it helps make a station compact with less noise; therefore, Honda believes that to expand its use to private homes would be a realistic future.

In the station in this trial, an electrolysis system with solar panel and and purchased electricity is used. Managing Director Mr. Yamamoto said, "The testing trial is to confirm other problems that might arrise such as its function, durability in providing cars with fuel and probable other issues in improving it in the future."
