The children gave a speech - Japanese children in English and those from USA in Japanese - and talked about what they thought of their hobbies, sports, their family affairs etc. After the contest, Bailey Jones (12), 7th grade at Perry School inside the US base, said "I started to study Japanese because I wanted to know what all those people were talking about. It's still difficult."
Shun'ichiro Yamada (7), 1st grade at Hikari Primary School attached to Yamaguchi University, said "I like English. Someday I want to speak to a lot of American friends." And his sister, Kyoko (12), 6th grade at the same primary school, said "I want to be a cabin attendant of the airplane in the future." Both Shun'ichiro and Kyoko won the prize.
