Another manifestation of the life review seems to be the curious but apparently common phenomenon of mirror-gazing, illustrated by the following:
I was passing by my mirror. I noticed how old I was. My appearance, well, it prompted me to think of death-and of my past-what I hadn’t done, what I had done wrong.
One hospitalized 80-year-old woman, whose husband had died five years before her admission, had been discovered by her family berating her mirror image for her past deeds and shaking her fist at herself.

鏡が私の前を通り過ぎた。私は自分自身がいくつであるか気づいた。私自身の姿かたちが死を連想させ、私が過去に行わなかったこと、そして私の過去の過ちを連想させる。
入院する五年前に夫を亡くした80歳の女性患者は家族によって鏡に映る自分を過去の行いを理由に叱り、体を揺さぶっていた事実に初めて気付かされた。
