Speaking broadly, the more intense the unresolved life conflicts, the more work remains to be accomplished toward reintegration.Although the process is active, not static, the content of one’s life usually unfolds slowly; the process may not be completed prior to death.
そして、人生に対する評価は思い出の同義語ではなく、この思い出を含むこと。これは単なる思い出したくない記憶を読み起こすことや、意図的に見つけ出すことだけではなく、両方起きる可能性がある。人生に対する評価はあるとき気づかないうちに静かに行う。多くのお年寄りは、聞かれる前にその経験が防御機能のひとつとしてかすかに思う。しかしながら、防御過程中の修正は確かにある。広くいえば、人生の解決できていない葛藤が多いほど、全体にまとめなおそうとする仕事が多くなる。その過程は活発で静的ではないが、人の人生の中身は通常ゆっくり広がる。その過程は死ぬ直前まで完了しない。
