DeNA and Daum Target 10 Million Game Subscribers by End of 2012
Earlier in the month we told you about DeNA’s (TYO:2432) partnership with Korean web portal Daum (KDQ:035720) to promote its Mobage platform in South Korea. Today we received word that the partnership was formally signed, and that it will be branded as ‘Daum Mobage.’
The two companies held a press conference in Seoul today to discuss the partnership, and the slides that were presented can be found below. Included are a few interesting factoids that shed some light on the Daum Mobage plan.
DeNA/Daum： 2012年末までにユーザー数1000万人を目指す
DeNA（東証：2432）が韓国のウェブポータルサイトDaum（KDQ:035720）と提携し、韓国でモバゲーを促進することについては、今月初めにお伝えした。そして本日、両社が正式に提携契約を交わし、サービス名が「Daum Mobage」になるとの知らせを受けた。
本日、両社は提携に関する記者会見をソウルで開いた。下に掲載しているのは、その時に提示されたスライドだ。このスライドの中には、「Daum Mobage」計画を説明する興味深い情報もいくつか含まれている。
The most notable is that Daum Mobage is aspiring to reach 10 million smartphone user subscriptions by the end of 2012. Daum already has over 38 million registered users, and hopes that the community platform will facilitate easy promotion via organic word of mouth, and easy sign-in with Daum credentials.
The service is scheduled to launch early next year, with Korean versions of popular titles like We Rule and Tap Fish coming to the Android market. Choi Sae-hoon, the CEO of Daum communications was quoted as saying:
一番注目すべきは、Daum Mobageが2012年末までにスマートフォンユーザーの会員数で1000万人を目指していることだ。Daumは3800万人の登録ユーザーを既に抱えており、同社のコミュニティープラットフォームを通じて、コミュニティー内の口コミやDaumユーザー向けにシンプルな登録方法を提供することで、簡単なプロモーションが促進できることを期待している。
「Daum Mobage」サービスが開始されるのは来年早々の予定で、「We Rule」「Tap Fish」などの韓国版の人気タイトルがAndroid市場で展開される。Daum CommunicationsのCEO Choi Sae-hoon（チェ・セフン）氏は、Korea Times紙で次のように述べている。
"Games are the number one category in smartphone application markets. When comparing the market size of Korea with that of Japan, the one here has huge growth potential considering the infiltration of smartphones. — Korea Times"
