1999年まで数々の偉業を成し遂げ2000年に日本人の野手として初めてメジャーリーガーになりました。
日本人がメジャーで活躍できるわけないと最初は否定的な意見が多かったですが、結果としてその年に新人王を獲得しました。
そして2016年メジャーリーグの最多安打記録を更新し世界記録としてギネス記録に認定されました。
2017年に44歳になる今シーズンも現役として活躍しています。

He accomplished various exploits until 1999. In 2000, he became the Major League's first Japanese fielder.
At first, there were many negative opinions saying that there is no way a Japanese can play in the Major League, however he was able to earn the rookie-of-the-year title of that year.
In 2016 he updated the Major League's most safe hits record, and it was recognized as a world record by the Guinness World Records.
In 2017, at the age of 44, he is still active in the current season.
