Colossiansが書かれたのはColosseの町で間違った教えが広まり、教会の存在を脅かしていたからです。Paulが受けた知らせがどんな物であったのかは分かりませんが、間違った教えに対するPaulの応答がこの手紙なのです。このPaulの応答から、広まっていた教えは間違ったキリスト像であった事(おそらくキリストが完全に人であり、完全に神であるという事と相反する教え)がわかります。また、Paulはユダヤ教的な割礼に重点を置く教えも非難しています

I don't know what kind of notification Paul received but this letter is Paul's response to this wrong precept.
You can see by Paul's response that the precept was wrong (probably Christian was completely a human and the precept which against the precept believing it was god).
Also, Paul is against focusing on the Judaism circumcision.
