一年戦争が終結して3年、地球連邦軍再建計画に基づきガンダム開発計画が提唱され、その試作機であるガンダム試作1号機、ガンダム試作2号機が性能テストのためにオーストラリアのトリントン基地に搬入される。しかし、エギーユ・デラーズ率いるジオン軍の残党「デラーズ・フリート」がこの情報をつかんでおり、極秘作戦「星の屑作戦」を実行に移すべく、核兵器を搭載したガンダム試作2号機を強奪せんと基地を襲撃する。

Three years after the end of One Year War. As a part of Federation army's reorganization plan, a Gundam development plan in proposed. Experimental machines, Gundam Prototype #1 and #2 are transported for performance tests to Australia's Thorington base. However, remnants of the Zeon army, led by Aguille Delaz, the Delaz Fleet intercept the information and prepare a secret "Operation Stardust" to seize the nuclear warhead-equiped Gundam Prototype #2.
